Leona died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Niobrara Valley Hospital, Lynch, Nebraska. Leona was welcomed into the family by sisters, Wilma and Grace and brother, Glen. Read More	Leona Jo (Elis) Vesely, daughter of Adolph and Theresia (Dobrichovsky) Elis, was born October 14, 1922, on the family farm at Pischelville, Nebraska. Leona died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Niobrara Valley Hospital, Lynch, Nebraska. Leona was welcomed into the family by sisters, Wilma and Grace and brother, Glen. She attended Steele Creek School (District #46) until the eighth grade, then went to work for various families in the area. While attending dances at the Pischelville Hall, Leona caught the eye of a local young man. After a year of courtship, Leona and Otto Vesely were married in O'Neill, Nebraska on November 19, 1941 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister and her husband, Grace and Joe Jerman. The newlyweds moved to a farm three miles south of Verdel, Nebraska, where Leona resided for over 70 years. In 1946, Leona and Otto were blessed with a son, Davie, and five years later, a daughter, Kristie, was welcomed into the family. Farm life was difficult; however, Leona loved it and took a special interest in animals. She was forever adopting any animal that needed her. After Leona's children graduated, she felt like she needed to complete a goal she had for many years…to become a nurse's aide. Leona attended and completed a Geriatric Course in Verdigre, Nebraska, and then went on to work at the Niobrara Valley Hospital, Lynch, Nebraska, for the next 28 years. Leona and her two children became members of the Verdigre (NE.) United Methodist Church in 1961. She was actively involved with the church. Leona's favorite church activity was making dumplings for Kolach Days. From organizing the "Dumpling Gang" to approving the feeling of the dough, Leona played an integral role in the meal each year, including this past year. Leona's three grandchildren, Tina, Nic, and Jeni, were her pride and joy. She attended many school activities and functions with them, and became "Grandma Vesely" to their friends as well. Later, Leona enjoyed the company of her great-granddaughters, Gina and Miranda. Leona like to bake, always making sure something was on hand to share with whoever would drop by for a visit. Her holiday traditions will forever be remembered, from Easter egg dyeing to having roast goose for Christmas. Leona was a faithful listener to KBRX, as the radio was her constant companion. She was a member of the Verdel Auxiliary Unit #223, the Verdigre (NE.) United Methodist Church and for over 50 years, a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #8 of Pischelville, Nebraska. Leona survivors are: son, Davie and wife Esther; daughter, Kristie; grandchildren, Tina (Jason) Bredehoeft, Nic Kemnitz, and Jeni Kemnitz; great-granddaughters, Gina and Miranda Bredehoeft; brothers-in-law's spouses, Hazel Vesely, Florence Vesely and Lena Vesely and a host of family and friends. Leona was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Otto Vesely; son-in-law, David Kemnitz; brothers, Clarence and Glen Elis; sisters and their spouses, Wilma and Jim Nachtman and Grace and Joe Jerman; brother-in-law, Leo Vesely and wife Carrie Ann; brothers-in-law, Art Vesely, Frank Vesely, and Roy Vesely. Burial was in Pischelville Cemetery, rural Verdigre, Nebraska.
