She was born on July 27, 1921, in Galland, the daughter of John Christian and Florence Bringer Johnson. She married Leo Hemingway on April 1, 1939, in Fort Madison. She had attended the Assembly of God... Read More	Leona J. Hemingway July 27, 1921 - Dec. 12, 2008 Leona Juanita Johnson Hemingway, 87, of Keokuk died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at River Hills Village. She was born on July 27, 1921, in Galland, the daughter of John Christian and Florence Bringer Johnson. She married Leo Hemingway on April 1, 1939, in Fort Madison. She was a homemaker her entire life. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren have been a true blessing to her. She had attended the Assembly of God Church in Keokuk most of her life where she worked in the church nursery for several years. Early in life, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and recently followed the ordinance of water baptism at New Testament Christian Church. Survivors include: two daughters Sharon Bullard and Sandra Pollitt and her husband, John, all of Keokuk; five grandchildren, Todd Bullard and his wife. Kathleen, Lisa Morris and her husband, Chris, and Chris Pollitt, all of Keokuk, Steve Pollitt of Hudson and Shawn Hemingway of Ames; four great-grandchildren, Ashton Bullard, Christian Morris, Elizabeth Morris and Joshua Pollitt; a sister-in-law, Della Johnson of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter at birth, Beverly Ann; a son, Robert Leo Hemingway; a son-in-law, Donald Bullard; two brothers, Bobby Johnson and Clarence "Spud: Johnson; her twin sister, Wynona Johnson; and her sister, Maxine Johnson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser and Pastor David Drew officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Keokuk. Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice, Keokuk Assembly of God or New Testament Christian Church.
