Description	:	Spearville -- Leona "Toots" Lampe, 85, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Medicalodge, Kinsley. She was born Dec. 13, 1921, at her farm home near Offerle to Adam and Catherine (Urban) Stegman. She met her husband, Carl Lampe, at a platform dance in Offerle. They were married Oct. 23, 1940, at Windthorst, where they made their home for the next 26 years. He preceded her in death in 1966. She was the youngest of 15 brothers and sisters. She was born Dec. 13, 1921, at her farm home near Offerle to Adam and Catherine (Urban) Stegman. She met her husband, Carl Lampe, at a platform dance in Offerle. They were married Oct. 23, 1940, at Windthorst, where they made their home for the next 26 years. He preceded her in death in 1966. She was the youngest of 15 brothers and sisters. She attended a one-room schoolhouse near her home until she was a junior in high school and quit to help her mother after her father died. She moved to Spearville and worked as a lunchroom cook until retiring. She also worked at the Ford County Lake, preparing meals for campers, and helped for several years at the Spearville Senior Center. Leona loved to quilt, work in her garden and bake. Many have enjoyed the cream pies, noodles and cinnamon rolls she prepared. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Spearville. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Jean (Jennie) Welsch and husband, Dean, Haviland, Linda Dixon and husband, Gary, Kinsley, and Joyce Tiemeyer and husband, Noel, Dodge City; a sister-in-law, Josephine Scheier, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Zachary Tiemeyer. The vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville, with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Windthorst. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Windthorst Heritage Center in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 N. Sixth Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
