Description	:	Mrs. Leona M. Andes, 81, a resident of Brooklyn, IA, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, IA, after a sudden illness. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Andes was held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 5, 2000, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. The Celebrant was Rev. Richard Okumu. The organist was Marilyn Kriegel and special selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Flower attendants were Glen and Sheri Berry. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Andes was held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 5, 2000, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. The Celebrant was Rev. Richard Okumu. A Scripture service was held at 7 PM, Sunday, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established. Leona Marie DeLoof Andes, daughter of Ernest and Augusta DeVilder DeLoof, was born July 23, 1918, at the farm home near Brooklyn, IA. Leona was educated in rural schools near Brooklyn and performed housework in the area and worked in the Grinnell shoe factory. On November 25, 1943, she married Charles Andes in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he was stationed in the army. She worked at Safeway stores in Cheyenne before moving back to native Brooklyn with Charles in 1949. The couple farmed in the Brooklyn area until retiring in 1983 and then moved into Brooklyn in 1991. Leona worked for 16 years at the Brookhaven Nursing Home. Leona was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. Her parents; her husband, Charles; and one sister, Dorothy Kochuyt, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Gary and wife Marylou of Silverton, Oregon; three grandchildren, Craig, Rebecca and Renee and one great grandchild, Maya Jade, all from Oregon; one brother, August DeLoof of Louisville, Kentucky; and two sisters, Margaret Burns of Brooklyn, IA, and Marian Macksey of Oskaloosa, IA.
