The organist was Jan Read and special selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross." Flower Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McClenathan. Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements. Charles John Andes was born March 8, 1918 to Isaac Jacob and Jennie May Williams Andes at a farm near Brooklyn, Iowa. Charles was educated in Madison #8 school and Brooklyn School and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1935. He worked the family farm after graduation and then taught grade school in Madison Township. In 1942 he entered the Army and was stationed at Ft. Warren, Cheyenne, Wyoming. On November 25, 1943, Charles was married to Leona DeLoof in Cheyenne and following World War II he became a manager at Tyrell Chevrolet for 4 years. In 1949 Charles and Leona came back to native Brooklyn and began farming. One year later he started operating the family farm and continued farming there and at other locations until 1983 when he retired. In 1991 they moved into Brooklyn. Charles was a member of the Madison Church of Christ and the Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294 and the Farm Bureau. H was well known in Brooklyn for his service on the BGM School Board (6 years), the Brookhaven Board of Director (30 years), and the Festival of Flags activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne, Ernest, and Harold; and one sister, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Leona; his son Gary and wife Marylou of Silverton, Oregon and 3 grandchildren, Craig, Rebecca and Renee and one great-grandchild, Maya Jade, all from Oregon and one sister, June Douglas of Brooklyn.
