Mrs. Leona Marie Darrah, 54-year-old Ottumwa nurse, died at 1:45 a.m. today at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield, following an illness. She had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Glenn McKee, in Fairfield, for the past two months. She was graduated from the school of nursing at the St. Joseph hospital here in 1932, and had been practicing nursing until recent months. The daughter of Chris and Mollie Haffner, she was born at Donnellson January 29, 1895. She had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1928. Besides her sister, she is survived by a stepson, Richard Darrah of Ottumwa; a niece, Mrs. Margaret Carlson, Fairfield, and two nephews, Robert and Donald McKee, both of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Darrah, on February 5, 1948, and by her parents. The body has been removed to the Johnson funeral chapel here awaiting completion of arrangements. “DARRAH SERVICES,” From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Friday, May 27, 1949: Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Marie Darrah, Ottumwa nurse who died Thursday at Fairfield, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel, in charge of the Rev. Donald H. Gill of First Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elmer Wells, Warren Townsend, Vern Kridelbaugh, Verl Dawson, Jesse Walden and Charles Vaught.
