Banta, 68, of Fellows, who died Wednesday at a Bakersfield hospital after a short illness. The services are to be conducted by the Newton I.O.O.F. lodge. A native of Indiana he came to California 48 years ago, and had been a resident of Fellows for 26 years. Up to the time of his illness he owned and operated a battery shop in Fellows. Mr. Banta was born on August 6, 1869, and next Saturday he would have celebrated his sixty-ninth birthday anniversary. Mr. Banta was a member of Newton Lodge No. 444, I.O.O.F. of Fellows, and also a member of Samaritan Rebekah Lodge No. 55 of Fellows. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Mueller of Fellows, Mrs. Frances Oxford of Long Beach, and Mrs. Edna Stumbaugh of Taft; and a son, Chester D. Banta of San Diego; four sisters, Mrs. Lula Patten of Sawtelle, and Mrs. Alice Castle of Culver City, Mrs. Hannah Larch and Mrs. Olive Harper of Indiana, and also four brothers in Indiana.
