Description	:	Leonard E. Vickery, of Malaga, age 92, died Saturday, June 21, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born March 12, 1911, at Stella, Arkansas to Richard and Tennessee Vickery. He and Edith Ione Dunn were married September 24, 1932 in Stella Arkansas. He operated his own farm in Arkansas for several years, then moved his family to Washington in 1943 and began working in orchards. He was actively involved in ministries. He was... Read More	Leonard E. Vickery, of Malaga, age 92, died Saturday, June 21, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born March 12, 1911, at Stella, Arkansas to Richard and Tennessee Vickery. He and Edith Ione Dunn were married September 24, 1932 in Stella Arkansas. He operated his own farm in Arkansas for several years, then moved his family to Washington in 1943 and began working in orchards. He leased an orchard for two years, then worked at lead, and foreman positions until his retirement in 1974. He was a longtime member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wenatchee. He was actively involved in ministries. He was known for making good use of his teaching skills. He loved sports, especially baseball and fishing. Indeed, some suspected that he may have been born with a baseball glove on one hand, and a fishing pole in the other. He was educated in a rural one room school in Stella, Arkansas. Throughout his life he loved to read and was knowledgeable in many subjects. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Burley, Theodore, Otto, and Ellis, two sisters, Laura (Vickery) Vickery, and Lillian Brian, one son, Samuel Vickery, and one grandson, Daniel McCarver. He is survived by his wife, Edith Ione at the home; two sons, Rudy Vickery and wife, Norma of Wenatchee; and Doug Vickery and wife, Bev of Wenatchee; four daughters, Wanda and husband, Searles McCarver of Wenatchee; Clema Freeman of Malaga; Fay, and husband, Dayle Krohnholm of East Wenatchee; and Gloria and husband, Dale Smith of East Wenatchee; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father, an honest, warm, gentle and charitable person. He especially enjoyed visiting people, often reaching out to those in need. Dear dad, This is a letter from your wife. You were the most wonderful loving husband in all the world to me. Our 70 years of marriage gave me great happiness. I also know you loved our children greatly. In fact, dad, you had a great love for all people everywhere. Dad dearest, I know all your children, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, also loved you very much. Dad, I will hold you in my heart forever. Your loving wife, mom. Graveside funeral services will be held, 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the Orondo Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
