L.G.Lawrence was born August 20th, 1839, at Hampshire, Cane county, Illinois, and came with his parents to Richland township in 1850. He was united in marriage with Castine R. Reynolds, on June 2nd 1861, in Coffin's Grove township. To this union thirteen children were born, namely; Mrs. Ellen Eldredge, of Gascoyne, North Dakota; Mrs. Clara Smith of Dundee; Mrs. Odessa Eldredge of Toronto, Kansas; Mrs. Marilla Smith of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Janette Chrittenden, who died in 1895; Mrs. Georgie Norris, Masonville; Mrs. Margaret Hutson, Waterloo, Mrs. Blanche Smith, Delaware; Ray L. Lawrence of Dundee; Mrs. Ethel Mullen of Manchester, and Clyde H. Lawrence of Dundee. On October 1st, the family had a reunion, and upon this occasion all of the children were privileged to be at home for a short time. The members of the family residing at a distance had just returned to their homes when the father was stricken with his final illness. Mr. Lawrence is survived by the children named and the faithful wife, who traveled life's pathway with him for more than fifty-seven years. He also leaves surviving him two brothers, John of Dows City, Iowa, and George of Montana. About eight years ago Mr. Lawrence left his farm and moved to Dundee. He was a successful farmer and was honored and respected by everyone. While he resided on the farm he affiliated with the church of Forrestville, and after removing to Dundee he gave of his means and strength to the support of the Wesleyan Methodist church. In the home he was a true husband and kind father, and to those in need he was a true friend. The sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
