There will be no visitation. Leonard Troshynski, 87, son of August and Elizabeth (Judge) Troshynski, was born December 16, 1932 in Atkinson, Nebraska. He passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Guthrie County Hospital. Len went to country school and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Atkinson in 1950. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm for a few years before being drafted into the Army. He was stationed in Munich, Germany from 1953-1955, where he partook in many steins of beer. On June 6, 1959, Leonard was united in marriage with Leona Schmit at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Atkinson, Nebraska. Following their marriage, they moved to an acreage in Guthrie Center, as Len wanted to raise his kids in a small town. He worked as a truck driver all his life for Wilson Meat Company, Farmstead and Sunny Fresh, until his retirement in 2000. Len and Leona made their acreage home for 58 years before moving to Independent Living at the New Homestead in 2017. After Leona passed in 2019, Len moved into the nursing home. Len developed a love of baseball at an early age, which came from his dad and uncles. This became the “it” sport for the Troshynski boys. They had a baseball field on their farm and kids from town would go out there to play. Len played during high school on different organized teams as a catcher with his twin brother, Ben, who was the pitcher. When Len was older, he played baseball in the Legion, Army and on a fast pitch softball league in Guthrie Center. His love for baseball led to many back-yard games on the acreage with his kids and grandkids. Len was an easy-going person who never complained. He enjoyed farming, gardening and mowing on the acreage. He also enjoyed canning tomato juice in the summer with his family. A few of his favorite past times were watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and St. Louis Cardinals while grabbing a beer from “Smiley.” After many visits to “Smiley,” the Irish songs, auctioneering or yodeling would be flowing. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family, in particular the game of pitch. Len always said he never met a person he didn’t like, which explains why he had many friends who loved him. Len was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a 64 year member of Omar B. Shearer Post #124. Leonard is survived by his children, Timothy (Deb), William (Shannon), Lisa (Lance) and Lori (David); grandchildren, Lindsay (Robbie), Jordan (Amber), Morgan (Alex), Faith, Chloe, Jake (Christana), Taylor (Josh), Rachel (fiancé Tony), Nick (Tessa), Whitney (Mike), Lauren (fiancé Titan), Adam (Chelsea), Logan, Blake, and Lilly; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Colten, Jace, Conner, Haley, Kaden, Cecilia, Brandon, Audrey, Lucy, Kate, Sawyer, Huck, Ella, Burke, Briggs, Sloane, Jayda, Nolan, and one new “great” on the way. Siblings, Rita and Lois; brothers-in-law, John and George; sisters-in-law, Eileen, Pat, Shirley, Udonna and Catherine. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 60 years, Leona; his parents; granddaughter, Emily Troshynski; brothers, Robert, John, Gerald, Thomas and his twin brother, Ben; and sister, Rosemary Kilmurry.
