The second was Leonard Bessman of Dumont, killed after midnight Saturday in a car driven by his son-in-law, Dennis Harding of Ackley, left the roadway at a T-intersection and slammed into a ditch. Bessman was pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin County Medical Examiner Dr. F. N. Cole. Harding was hospitalized in fair condition at a Waterloo hospital. Services for Mr. Bessman will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Evangelical United Brethern Church at Dumont. The Rev. Rudolf Trusheim will conduct the services. Burial will be in North Lawn Memorial Gardens south of Iowa Falls. Mr. Bessman was born March 25, 1917 near Buckeye, the son of Frank and Ida Bessman. He attended rural schools near Buckeye and worked in the area for many years. He married Gladys Michaelson in about 1940 in Mitchell County, where he worked a number of years. They lived in Iowa Falls where he worked at Ralston Purina Co., for several years be fore moving seven years ago to Dumont, where he owned a combination cafe-service station - repair and welding shop. Surviving are two daugthers, Mrs. Harding of Ackley and Kay Bessman of Dumont; four brothers, Otis of Iowa Falls and Arthur, William, an d Robert of Waterloo, six sisters, Mrs. Vernie Brandt, Iowa Falls, Mrs. Weslie Russell of Illinois, Mrs. George Nicholson and Mrs. Ernest Tjarks both of Alden, Mrs. Clifford Nicholson of Buckeye, and Mrs . William Burke of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
