LeRoy Howard Hill was born December 20, 1916 in Highmore, S.D. to George and Mary (Hooker) Hill. He was the third child of five boys. He grew up on a farm in Riverside Township north of Ree Heights. He graduated from Ree Heights High School in 1938. He enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1942 where he served as a Mortar Gunner with the PGC 43rd Infantry Division in New Guinea in the south Pacific during World War II. He was discharged from the service in October 1945 and returned to the family farm where he was in partnership with his brothers. He married Abbie Linscheit March 12, 1971 in Miller. They were married for 33 years. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife Abbie of Miller; a brother Everett (Jeanne) of Huron; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Lloyd, Orville and Frank.
