LeRoy Melvin Larsen was born in Forsyth, MT on Oct. 17, 1931 to Henry Christian Larsen and Mae Junge Larsen of Rosebud, MT. LeRoy attended grade and high school in Rosebud graduating in 1949. He then attended Montana State College in Bozeman, MT where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. His fraternity ring was his favorite ring and he wore it throughout his adult life. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 where he served in the prestigious Intelligence Division. LeRoy instructed code deciphering and recounted teaching many officers and top commanders. He was honorably discharged in 1955 after serving in several locations around the world, including England and Germany, during the Korean War. He married Gayle Hendrickson in Forsyth on Nov. 12, 1956. They were married 42 years before divorcing. To this union were born two sons and one daughter. His activities with his young family included hunting, moto-cross and all sports that Chris and Grant participated in and golf and basketball with LeAnn. His eldest son was Henry Christian "Chris" Larsen (deceased in 2001). He is survived by his son Grant Larsen (Cindy) of Forsyth, and daughter LeAnn Larsen (Harry Miller) of Billings, MT. LeRoy is also survived by three grandchildren (Billy, Christian and Adrienne), and four nephews (Steve, Tom, Rob and Jim Brown). He was preceded in death by his parents, son Chris, and sister Dorothy Ann Brown. LeRoy lived all of his life in Rosebud and Forsyth. He was very civic minded and always involved in community and organizational service. LeRoy was a past elder of the Federated Church of Forsyth. He was twice mayor of Forsyth, served on the school board, City Council, Rosebud Hospital board, Police Commission and Forsyth Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, York Rite and the Shrine. He was also a member of the MT Realtor's Association, the Forsyth Development Council, and served as president of the MT Implement Association. He could always be counted on to support and improve the Forsyth country Club. After leaving the Air Force, LeRoy joined his father at Wallin Mercantile in Forsyth. They purchased Wallin Mercantile and it later became L. M. Larsen, Inc., a farm implement dealership. LeRoy later founded Larsen Agency and was the broker/owner until his retirement in late 2009. LeRoy's family and friends will remember him fondly for his "one liners", dry wit and wonderful sense of humor, "nick names", infectious laughter, and undying generosity. Most recently LeRoy was reading voraciously (often reading faster than we could buy the books), taking long rides in the country with Grant and his nightly phone visits with LeAnn. His faithful dog Max was always a great companion and a joy to his life.
