Description	:	LeRoy Paul Christiansen - age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa. LeRoy P. Christiansen, son of Elmer and Dena (Behrends) Christiansen, was born October 30, 1924 in rural Pomeroy, IA. In March, 1928 they moved to rural Pocahontas. He attended both the country grade school Grant #5 and Immanuel Lutheran School in Pomeroy. He graduated from Pocahontas High School with the Class of 1943. Read More	LeRoy Paul Christiansen - age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa. LeRoy P. Christiansen, son of Elmer and Dena (Behrends) Christiansen, was born October 30, 1924 in rural Pomeroy, IA. In March, 1928 they moved to rural Pocahontas. He attended both the country grade school Grant #5 and Immanuel Lutheran School in Pomeroy. He graduated from Pocahontas High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation he helped his father on the farm. Then on December 15, 1943 he was inducted into the Army Air Corp and was a nose gunner on the B24 plane. His time overseas was with the 15th Air Force, 451st Bombardment group, 727 th Bomb Squadron near Foggia, Italy. From there, he participated in 21 missions before the war ended in Europe. He was scheduled to transfer to the Pacific Theater, but the war ended while he was in route and then he was stationed in California. He was honorably discharged Dec. 17, 1945 after two (2) years and two (2) days. LeRoy began farming near Pomeroy and on June 16, 1946 he married his high school sweetheart and forever bride, Louise Seagren. They farmed near Pomeroy for nearly two (2) years. They then moved close to Laurens and farmed nine (9) additional years. During that time they gave birth to their three (3) children, Donna, Ruth, and Dennis. Since LeRoy loved farming and children he served as a 4-H Leader for over five (5) years. In December, 1956 they ventured west and moved to Southern California where they lived in Torrance and then Rancho Palos Verdes for 45 years. LeRoy worked for Sears & Roebuck for three (3) years when an insurance agent took notice of his ability to talk with people. He then joined Prudential Life Insurance Co. as an agent and remained with Prudential for over 26 years. He received the National Quality Award for 18 years and also obtained his L.U.T.C.F. certification. During that time he also served as the President of the Greater South Bay Life Underwriters Association. LeRoy was active in all of the Covenant Churches he attended and frequently found himself serving on church boards. He served as the Church Chairman for Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Rolling Hills Estates, CA, when it became the largest Covenant Church in the United States at that time. After a successful career, LeRoy retired from Prudential Insurance Co. in March, 1987. But, he did not retire from the work he loved – which was woodworking. He worked part time for the Rolling Hills Covenant Church as a finish carpenter. He designed and built shelves, desks and cabinetry for pastor’s offices and rolling cabinetry for church groups. He also designed and built large artistic scenic displays for children’s musical programs. He enjoyed this work for 12 years as he felt he was serving his Lord through the gift of his hands. In September, 2001 LeRoy and Louise returned to their roots and moved back to Pocahontas, IA as all of their children had been relocated to other states for employment. Two months after returning to Iowa his health began to decline. LeRoy was known and loved for his creativity, craftsmanship, smile and humor and always had a good clean joke to tell friends and clients. Survivors are wife Louise, children Donna (Jerry) Lewis of Winter Springs, FL, Ruth Newman of Northville, MI, Dennis (Kitty Lou) Christiansen of Manassas, VA. Nine grandchildren Kim (Ken) Mann of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Rachel (Tim) Cheney of Jacksonville, FL, David Lewis of Orlando, FL, Carol (Josh) Caines of Winter Gardens, FL, Christina (Steve) Shollack of Canton, MI, Heather (Mark) Grybel of Riverview, MI, Melissa (James) Newman-Peterson of Encinitas, CA, Alexandra Christiansen of Madison, TN, and Jenna Christiansen of Catlett, VA. Ten great grandchildren Emily and Carson Mann of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Gunner Cheney of Jacksonville, FL, Owen Caines of Winter Garden, FL, Nicholas, Brandon, and Justin Shollack of Canton, MI, Ashlyn Grybel of Riverview, MI, Guthrie and Corinna Peterson of Encinitas, CA, Sisters Lois Erickson of Madrid, IA and Bernice Allen of Waterloo, IA and Brother-in-Law Ernest Seagren of Torrance, CA. Sister-in-Law Harriet Den Hartog of Storm Lake, IA. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Jean and Lorin, brothers-in-law Bernard Seagren, Arlo Erickson, Sisters-in-law, Jan Seagren, Dorla Christiansen, Ann Christiansen and Bernice Seagren.
