Leroy Robert Cordell was born Mar 18, 1946, to Robert J. and Magdalene (Byer) Cordell in Watertown. He attended grade school in Watertown and graduated from Waverly High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1965 until October 1969. In that time, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He married Sharon Meis Oct 7, 1967. They lived in California for one year following his second Vietnam tour, then moved to Florence after his discharge from the Navy in 1969. They moved to Watertown in 1970 and they had three children. He was employed by Chickasha Mobile Homes until Apr 1970, when he began working at Minnesota Rubber, where he was currently employed. During that time he attended the Lake Area Vo-Tech diesel mechanics program under the GI bill. In April of this year would have been his 41st year at Minnesota Rubber. He was planning to retire in April. He married Patricia Ebnet-Hawkenson of Chokio, MN, Sep 29, 2007, in Morris, MN, and they made their home in Watertown. He was a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge for 33 years and the American Legion for 30 years. He also belonged to a Corvette group. He enjoyed visiting his family, traveling, riding motorcycle, hunting deer and antelope, driving his Corvette and going on group runs. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; his mother, Magdalene Cordell of Watertown; his children, Bruce (Dee Westman) Cordell of Kent, WA, Brian (Alisa) Cordell of Owatonna, MN, and Laurie (Kris) Bertelsen of St. Charles, MN; his stepchildren, Michael (Kim) Hawkenson of Kandiyohi, MN, Julie (Bruce) Nelson of Barnesville, MN, Wendy (Chris) Lang of Royalton, MN, and Shelly Banken and her fiance, Tom Kolbe of Sleepy Eye, MN; five grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis (Allan) Wikstrom of Baxter, MN.
