Description	:	Robert J. Cordell, age 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at a local care center. Robert Joseph Cordell was born on July 12, 1920 to Joseph and Frances (Hupf) Cordell at Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm in Codington County and attended school in Watertown. Cordell, age 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at a local care center. Robert Joseph Cordell was born on July 12, 1920 to Joseph and Frances (Hupf) Cordell at Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm in Codington County and attended school in Watertown. On June 19, 1945 he married Magdalene Byer in the Blessed Sacrament Church at Florence, SD, and the couple lived on a farm in Codington County. In addition to farming, Robert worked at various jobs including Swift & Co., over the road construction, owning his own truck, was a factory worker at Minnesota Rubber, a carpenter, a custodian at Brown Clinic and later worked at Lakeland Nursery. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and served on the Elmira #8 school board. He enjoyed horses, camping, traveling and enjoyed having coffee and visiting at the Stockmans Cafe. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera Benkofske and Lillian Palmer; and his brother, Jack Cordell. Robert is survived by his wife, Magdalene of Watertown; his son, Leroy (Patricia) Cordell of Watertown, SD; his daughter, Phyllis (Allan) Wikstorm of Baxter, MN; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (Pete) Aberle of Lakewood, CO; and a brother-in-law, Francis Benkofske of Big Stone, SD. Funeral mass will be Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father James Bream officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bruce Cordell, Connor Cordell, Anna Bertelsen, Katie Bertelsen, Samantha Kemper, Bailey Kemper and Taylor Kemper. Active Pallbearers will be Brian Cordell, Laurie Bertelsen, Greg Kemper, Becky Brueland, Hannah Brueland and Doug Brandreit. Arrangements by Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel.
