Read More	NORFOLK — Memorial services for LeRoy V. Parks, 93, Norfolk, will be at a later date. Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements. 1923-2017 LeRoy Vernon Parks, son of Dave and Elsie (Kramer) Parks was born Aug. 16, 1923, at Neligh. He grew up working on the home farm and attended Neligh High School. He was a World War II Army veteran in Germany and France and a recipient of the Bronze Star, and other ribbons and awards, for going above and beyond the call of duty while setting up communication lines on the front line. He was married to Betty Jane Herley on Feb. 3, 1950, at Neligh. Four children were born to them: Kenneth, Linda, Kevin and Keith. LeRoy went to work for an independent electrician in Neligh — learning the trade — electrifying farms in the area. A few years later, he went to work for Nebraska Public Power District, where he was employed for 25 years. He also did electrical wiring on the side to supplement the family income. He took early retirement from NPPD to continue his electrical work as "Parks Electric." He was a member of the Tilden Boat Club when it originated. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Norfolk. More recently, LeRoy was involved with delivering Meals on Wheels. He died Feb. 17, 2017, at Faith Regional Services Health Services in Norfolk after a brief illness at the age of 93. Survivors include his spouse, Betty; his children, Kenneth Parks and spouse Diane from Osage Beach, Mo., Linda (Parks) and spouse Dennis Ptak from Lakewood, Texas, Kevin Parks and spouse Donna from Norfolk and Keith Parks of Norfolk; his sister, Paula (Peterson) Owens Warren from Creighton. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Dave Parks; his stepfather, Paul Peterson; and his mother, Elsie (Kramer) Parks Peterson. LeRoy's life was a testament to a strong yet soft-hearted man that was always fair and loving. During the time his family was growing, his spouse and children always came first. He always stayed in close contact with his sister, Paula, and her first spouse, Eldon (who has passed) in Creighton. There were many Sunday afternoon gatherings at Grandma Peterson's farm with the two young families. He was a man of many talents and mostly a do-it-yourself kind of guy. He and Betty also gradually purchased homes in Tilden and Norfolk as rental properties and over the years and eventually worked out of the electrical business. At 93, he was still active in water sports. Most of the time he had more energy and stamina than many people much less his age. He was always caring for Betty up to his last days and still took care of their rental business, as well as their everyday needs. His interest in old cars never faded and he always had some project going on. With a son in Missouri, a daughter in Texas, and two sons in Norfolk, he was always more concerned and interested in them and their families than himself. When asked, "How are you doing, Dad?" he would always say, "Oh, I'm fine!" He rarely complained. He was a devout Christian man. His faith and devotion to God and to his Church was unquestionable. His wisdom, his sense of humor, his zest for life and his ability to love unconditionally will live on in us — his children and extended family. He was a great inspiration to his grandchildren. His example of his constant love and determination influenced them to be better people. His family is at peace because we know he is at peace. His spirit is now with God in Heaven.
