Description	:	Lester Deterding, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday evening, March 26, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. Lester was born on September 28, 1920, at his parent's farm in rural Tripoli, Iowa, the son of Henry and Luella (Hay) Deterding. Lester was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Crane Creek. He attended country school which included two years of German Church School, near Tripoli. Read More	Lester Deterding, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday evening, March 26, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. Lester was born on September 28, 1920, at his parent's farm in rural Tripoli, Iowa, the son of Henry and Luella (Hay) Deterding. Lester was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Crane Creek. He attended country school which included two years of German Church School, near Tripoli. Following his schooling, he began helping his parents on the family farm. On January 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ila Klemp at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. The couple made their home on the family farm in Fremont Township, rural Tripoli, where Lester continued to milk for approximately 50 years and cared for the land for over 65 years. Lester retired from farming in December of 1985, when the couple moved to their present home in Waverly. He was a faithful member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Crane Creek his whole life, where he served on various committees, including church treasurer and deacon. Lester was also a board member for the Artesian Creamery and (A.M.P.I.) Association of Milk Producers. In his spare time, Lester enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards with family and friends and traveling. But most of all, Lester loved sharing his time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lester is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Ila Deterding of Waverly, Iowa; son, David (Carol) Deterding of rural Tripoli; two daughters, Lois (Virgil) Pries of rural Waverly, Barbara (Darrel) Mixdorf of rural Tripoli; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Edith(Lester) Linderman of Evansdale, Lorene Klemp of rural Tripoli. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Victor Deterding. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Crane Creek, rural Tripoli, Iowa, with Pastor Miles Renaas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Monday, March 28th from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to service on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Crane Creek.
