Bedford Times-Press Bedford, IA January 22, 1970 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lester Levi, son of David and Margaret Levi was born August 16, 1902 in Dedham, Iowa and departed from this life Monday, January 12, 1970 in the Greater Community Hospital in Creston at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 28 days following a several months illness which many days of that time was spent in hospitals. He grew to manhood in Gravity, Iowa. On June 10, 1925, he was united in marriage to Gladys Owens and to this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Erwood (Jean) Huffman of Altoona, Iowa and Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Petersen of Albert Lea, Minnesota. In 1926 Lester and Gladys joined the Clearfield Christian Church of which they still remain a member. Mr. Levi was a barber by trade and operated his own shop in Clearfield for many years. Later they operated the Clearfield Telephone Offices before going to Des Moines about five years ago where they have been employed at the Polk County Hospital, where Mr. Levi followed his barber profession. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven sisters: Mrs. Gladys Keith, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Martha Lloyd, Mrs. Esther Pullen, Mrs. Mae Stevensens, also Eva and Winnie. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gladys, his daughters, two sons-in-law, Erwood Huffman and Kenneth Petersen; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Levi of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Mina Korup of Guthrie Center, Iowa, and Mrs. Rachell Churchill of Gravity, Iowa, many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who were numbered by his acquaintances. Final rites were conducted Wednesday, January 14, 1970 at 2:00 p.m. from the Christian Church in Clearfield with Rev. Yoon, pastor of the church celebrating, assisted by the pastor of the Methodist Church, Rev. E. S. Tscetter. Music by Dwight and Bob McMath with Nioma Gaule at the organ. Casketbearers were Olin Mason, LeRoy Blessman, Harold Knox, Ed Richey, Dale Mauer and Ray Speer. Honorary casketbearers were Scott Harmon, Harold Harmon, Harold Kerns, Robert Reid, Marion Carmen and Paul Brown. Burial in Clearfield Cemetery. Clearfield Chronicle Clearfield, IA January 22, 1970
