Description	:	Leta Louise Dieckman was born May 5, 1911, in Clarksville, Iowa, to Dick and Mary (Wedeking) Dieckman. She graduated from Clarksville High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Leta moved to Postville to begin working for the Masonhall family, helping in their home and at their bakery. It was here that Leta met Willard Schutte. Read More	Leta Louise Dieckman was born May 5, 1911, in Clarksville, Iowa, to Dick and Mary (Wedeking) Dieckman. She graduated from Clarksville High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Leta moved to Postville to begin working for the Masonhall family, helping in their home and at their bakery. It was here that Leta met Willard Schutte. Leta was married to Willard Helmuth Schutte on August 25, 1934 at a Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. Willard had been attending Mortuary School there. They were the parents of two children, David and Anne. They enjoyed the local activities, attended the Iowa games and in the later years, spent part of the winters in Mesa, Arizona. Leta served for over 50 years on the Postville Public Library Board. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Leta was active in the Community Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, serving as a leader in the Presbyterian Women's organization, the John Knox Presbytery, and teaching Sunday School for many years. She was also active in the Volunteers in Mission program of the Presbyterian Church. She served for many years at the Cook Christian Training School in Tempe, Arizona, working in the kitchen, the gift shop, and in whatever capacity was needed. She also visited most of the Native American Presbyterian Missions in the southwest and in the Dakotas. Leta also became a Volunteer in Mission at the Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska. She became a resident of Grand Meadow Glen for several years and then the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in 2003, where she died Tuesday night, December 11, 2007. Survivors included two children, David (Karen) Schutte of Postville and Anne Swalek of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
