Baker was born in Frankfort, Hampshire county, West Virginia, July 20, 1840 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. D. Smith, Kansas City, Kansas, January 11, 1919, aged 78 years, 5 months and 21 days. His death was due to paralysis. Father Baker grew to manhood in Virginia. Smith, Kansas City, Kansas, January 11, 1919, aged 78 years, 5 months and 21 days. His death was due to paralysis. Father Baker grew to manhood in Virginia. He was first married to Mary Ellen Greyson in 1862. To this union were born three children. Two died in infancy. The mother died in 1871, being survived by the father and one daughter. In 1873 Mr. Baker was married to Martha Ellen Welch. To this union were born three children, Racheal, Robert and Clair, Clair dying in infancy. His last wife and companion preceded him to the Great Beyond five years ago, at Valley Falls. Since then he has made his home with his children. Father Baker joined the church when he was a young man and has always been a devoted Christian holding to the old United Brethren doctrine; but was a member of the M. E. Church at Valley Falls since 1894, when he located here. Father Baker was the last of fifteen children. He has always lived a strictly temperate life, believing and trying to live up to the Golden Rule.
