Noble, eldest son of Jonathan and Martha Noble was born in Albany, Genosee Co., N.Y,., December 27, 1830. In his early childhood he moved first with his parents to Michigan and thence to Yankee Settlement, now Edgewood, in 1846. After looking about for a location the father settled on the land known as the Frank Noble farm and there established his pioneer home. The house was of logs, the comforts were few, of luxuries there were none. The nearest post office was Dubuque. The boys, Levi, Lucius, and Frank worked with their father. Levi was married March 19, 1854 to Lucinda A. Haskell. To them were born Clarence, Leonard, and Elmina. The boys died in 1868. From this blow the family barely recovered, the wife having been an invalid ever since that time. Mr. Noble's whole thought and care was for the welfare of his wife and remaining daughter. For these he has amply provided and goes to his rest at the close of along and busy life with his work well done. He died at his home in Strawberry Point May 2nd, 1914, mourned by his immediate family, two brothers, nephews and nieces, neighbors and friends. He did his work quietly and many a one says. "He helped me to my feet when it seemed impossible for me to ever get a start." The funeral was held from the house conducted by Rev. C.H,. True, a friend of the family for more than 60 years. Interment in Edgewood Cemetery. Edgewood Journal 30 July 1914 W.D. McIntosh is putting up a fine monument for the late Levi Noble in the Edgewood Cemetery this week. The monument weights something like 6,000 pounds and is a nice looking block of gray granite.
