A resident of the home for the past three years his health had failed rapidly in recent months. Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. C. C. Burial was in the Coon Rapids cemetery. Obituary Lewellyan G. Crawford was born in Logan county, Zanesville, Ohio, on Oct. 22, 1859 and as he was orphaned at the age of 12 knew little about his background. His grandfather was a saddler and harness maker and his mother a photographer and horse trainer Mr. Crawford said he always had a love for horses, which he probably inherited. From the age of 12 until he was 21 he lived with relatives and in his early teens handled the horses on a cousin's large farm. In 1883 he moved to Iowa to work in a coal mine at Boone where he stayed for 5 years as a mine boss. On June 4, 1887 he married Mary Elliott and shortly after their marriage moved to Coon Rapids to work for Bert Brutsche. He also worked at the railroad station for nine months and at the Steele-Jenks elevator for about 8 years. Then he bought a farm north of Coon Rapids and lived there for 10 years until 1908 when he moved to a home on north 4th avenue which he built. This home was on the corner where the H. S. Keister residence now stands. His wife died in February, 1940. Mr. Crawford, a member of the Friends church, was a deeply religious man who read his Bible every day and encouraged others to do the same. He gave away hundreds of Bibles to children and friends. He was an avid reader and could quote from the works of Burns, Byron, Longfellow and Tennyson. Left to mourn his passing is Mrs. Frances Campbell, a daughter of his wife's cousin, whom they raised, also several of his wife's relatives and many friends. Coon Rapids has lost not only its oldest citizen but also one of its finest We are indebted to Miss Mildred Middleton for the information given in this obituary.
