He died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Buford Moore in Hampton. Mr. Bridges was born in 1870 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He lived in Morgan township for many years, where he farmed. Survivors are two sons: Donald Bridges and Clair Bridges of Dows and one daughter, Mrs. Moore of Hampton. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Dows. Hampton Chronicle 14 Nov 1957 (Thu) Contributor: Betsy Monson (46958858) ***** "The funeral of Mr. Lewis Bridges, who died in Hampton at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Beuford Moore, on November 6, 1957, was held on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church of Dows with Rev. R. A. Brough in charge of the service. Bernice Hersman and Lucille Jacobson, accompanied by Max Banwell at the organ, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "When I Walk the Last Mile of the Way". The Pallbearers were Ralph Coombs, Don Turner, Archie Foust, Dale Rollene, John Jacobson, and Claude Johnson. Interment was made in Fairview Cemetery. Obituary Lewis Edwin Bridges, son of John and Emma Bridges, was born on July 20, 1870, at Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended country school and did farm work until his marriage. On February 15, 1894, he was united in marriage to Cora Douglas. They lived on a farm near Oskaloosa for nine years and then moved to a farm in Franklin County where they lived for seven years. Following that he worked the Isaacson farm. He then bought the farm in Franklin County which he made his permanent home. Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away September 9, 1942, and by a son, Wayne Douglas [Bridges], who was killed in a car accident November 1, 1939. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Don Dale and Elmer Clair of Dows, and Vera May (Mrs. Beuford Moore) of Hampton; and by 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Two and a half years ago Mr. Bridges had a severe hospital experience. Since that time he has been cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Beuford Moore of Hampton, who gave him tender and unremitting care for the rest of his life. When one who has lived a long time in a community passes away, those who have known him throughout the years remember the things he has done for them. That is the case with Lew Bridges. They remember what a wonderful neighbor and freind he was. When any of Lew's neighbors needed help or if some bad luck over-took him, Lew would be right there ready to take hold and help. He never failed in neighborly duty. He had a big heart that overflowed with kindness and brotherly love to everyone.
