Obituary reads: "LEWIS HOPKINS IS DEAD Died, of pneumonia, at his home one and a half miles southeast from Farmington, at 11:40 a.m., on Monday, December 22, 1890, Lewis Hopkins, aged nearly 76 years. The funeral was conducted by Rev. D. F. Stiles, and took place partly at the late residence for the benefit of the family and relatives, at 11:30 Wednesday morning, and at the M.E. Church in Farmington at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, for the accommodation of his numerous friends, after which the remains were conveyed to the Masonic cemetery for interment. Mr. Hopkins was born in Blair County, Pennsylvania, in 1815, was married to Miss Ann C. Domer in 1841 and came to St. Francois County in 1858. He leaves behind a widow and eleven children, six boys and five girls, to mourn their loss. Lewis Hopkins is dead! The very announcement casts a gloom over the entire community and causes many a sad heart! Mr. Hopkins was a God fearing Christian man, a good citizen, industrious and hospitable, and left a death bed assurance of his acceptance to Him who doeth all things well. He leaves behind him a reputation that will live in the hearts of those who knew him-a reputation that will stand as a monument to his exemplary life. He was never idle. He had a strong constitution, great will power and an indomitable energy that carried him along life's rugged voyage down the river of time. He was ever hopeful and happy, and no difference how matters went, he was seldom, if ever, known to lose his temper. Many were the admonitions and words of advise by him extended to the editor of the NEWS, in days when it was needed, the rememberance of which, on this sad occasion, bloom as the flowers of spring. Though we heartily regret our loss, and reluctantly part with our aged friend, we humbly bow to the will of God, with the firm belief that the spirit of the one we so much regret to lose, is safe in that home, where the flowers of spring perpetually bloom, where care, disappointment and pain are unknown, to live forever amid all that is noble, glorious and delightful."

Thank you for posting these pictures and history, Karen. Lewis is my 1st Cousin 4X removed. The photos bear witness that he is indeed a relation. His sons look very similar to several males in my Hopkins branch.
