Description	:	"Lewis J. Spielman, 79, died Dec. 4, 2000, at his home in rural Ozawkie. He was born Jan. 28, 1921, at Jewell County, the son of Lewis 'Lew' William and Violet Rhee Bigham Spelman. He had lived in Ozawkie since 1951, moving there from rural Meriden. Mr. Spielman was a dairy farmer, stockman, and horseman all his life. He operated a dairy in Ozawkie for over 32 years. Spielman, 79, died Dec. 4, 2000, at his home in rural Ozawkie. He was born Jan. 28, 1921, at Jewell County, the son of Lewis 'Lew' William and Violet Rhee Bigham Spelman. He had lived in Ozawkie since 1951, moving there from rural Meriden. Mr. Spielman was a dairy farmer, stockman, and horseman all his life. He operated a dairy in Ozawkie for over 32 years. He attended the Ozawkie United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Lucky Spur Saddle Club of Oskaloosa, and a charter member of the Kansas State Horse Shows Circuit. He was a co-founder of the Oskaloosa Lions Club and a member of the Meriden Antique Threshers' Association. He was a member of the Pleasant View Grange and the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 594, both in Ozawkie. He served as a member of the board of trustees of Fairview 4-H club and was a long-time 4-H dairy leader in Jefferson County. He served on the board of education of the Lowry School and the Ozawkie Public Schools. He also served on the board of directors of the Jefferson County Cooperative Association in 1976. He was married to Betty Louise Woodard on May 20, 1944, at Perry. She survives of the home. Survivors include a son, James 'Jim' Spielman of Ozawkie; two daughters, Sherry Lou Siefert of Ozawkie and Patricia A. Courtney of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Marjory Martin of Atchison and Mary Jane Hoffer of Lecompton; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard 'Dick' Spielman. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Ozawkie United Methodist Church.
