Description	:	Lewis James Cain died on March 8, 1990 at the age of 65 in St Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Cain was born January 5, 2925 at Colwich, KS. He was the son of James L. Cain and Millie P. (Woolman) Cain. Having spent the early years of his life in the Colwich area, he was attracted to Halstead, KS and moved there in 1944, making it his permanent home. Cain and Millie P. (Woolman) Cain. Having spent the early years of his life in the Colwich area, he was attracted to Halstead, KS and moved there in 1944, making it his permanent home. Lewis and Elizabeth M. Frazer were married on March 23, 1947, in Halstead, KS and from that marriage they had one son, Lyle. Lewis was a farmer and school bus driver. He continued driving a school bus for a number of years after he stopped actively farming until for health reasons, he entered full retirement. Lewis was an active member of our community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Halstead and had served on the Church Board. He spent a number of years as a member of the Little Arkansas River Drainage Board as well as the Halstead Township Board and his contributions were many and greatly appreciated by those he served. An active member of the Masonic Fraternity, Lewis was a member of the Halstead Lodge #46 AF & AM and served as Master in 1959. He was a member of the Halstead Chapter #407, Order of the Eastern Star. A longtime member of the Wichita Scottish Rite, he served that organization as venerable master of its’ Elmo Lodge of Perfection. He was honored by Scottish Rite by being made a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor. Lewis was chosen by his peers as Mason of the Year for his lodge in 1974. The Grand Lodge of Kansas recognized him as an outstanding Mason in the year 1984. He also served the Grand Lodge of Kansas as District Deputy Grand Master of the 33rd District, and in 1987-1988 as Grand Junior Steward. During the last several years, Lewis’ activities were curtailed by his illness, but he continued to be in touch with his friends through the church, his Lodge and the morning social hour at the local coffee shop. Lewis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his son, Lyle (Karen Kalivoda) and their grandson, Brian Christopher. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald (Lorraine) of Wichita, KS and Milton (Alice) of Lakewood, CO. Two sisters: Lois (Berkley) Watts of Raleigh, NC and Marjorie (Gibb) Sentel of North Glen, CO. Lewis was a good husband and father. A good Christian and a devoted Mason.
