Description	:	Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," August 18, 1976: Lewis L. "Ike" Gates, 63, of 301 Randolph, died Tuesday at 7: 56 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. He was a retired heavy equipment operator at Edwards AFB, Calif. He was born June 3, 1913, in Ottumwa, the son of Lewis and Sarah Robinson Gates. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He married Clarabell Engle in 1935 in Missouri. She died in 1964. He was a retired heavy equipment operator at Edwards AFB, Calif. He was born June 3, 1913, in Ottumwa, the son of Lewis and Sarah Robinson Gates. Also surviving are one son, John of Palmdale, Calif.; two daughters, Ilene Rominger of Quartz Hill, Calif., and Linda Van Trease of Ottumwa; two stepsons, John Rifenberry of Lancaster, Calif., and Leonard Rifenberry of Ottumwa; and six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Glen H. Bradford of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the American Legion.
