The Shelby Democrat Thursday, December 11, 1890 Page 3, column 6 SUDDEN DEATH Monday Night of a Resident of Marion Township Tuesday at 6 o'clock a.m. undertaker Joseph Cummins awoke Coroner Bruce to notify him that his services were again needed. Mr. Cummins had just sold a casket to the friends of Mr. Lewis Meyers, son of Eli Meyers, of Marion township, who was found dead behind his barn at a late hour Monday evening. The coroner immediately left for the dead man's residence, which is on the Morristown pike, near the Cory homestead. Meyers was past fifty years of age, and has been a sufferer from heart trouble. Meyers was engaged with his brother-in-law in putting a new tongue to a bob sled at six o'clock Monday evening, and was overcome by heart trouble, dying before the services of a physician could be obtained to minister him. He was forty-seven years of age and leaves a wife and three children. CORONER'S VERDICT Shelby County, } State of Indiana, } ss, I, Clarence R. Bruce, Coroner of Shelby County, after a careful examination of the body of Lewis Meyer, and hearing the evidence, I find that he came to his death by heart trouble, to which he was subject, on December 8, 1890.
