Description	:	Lewis R. Martin, 83 of Marshalltown died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A private graveside service is planned. Funeral Home. Lewis was born June 23, 1926, the son of Gid and Daisy (Whitaker) Martin in Union. He graduated from Union High School. Lewis served his country during World War II, in the United States Navy. A private graveside service is planned. Funeral Home. Lewis was born June 23, 1926, the son of Gid and Daisy (Whitaker) Martin in Union. He graduated from Union High School. Lewis served his country during World War II, in the United States Navy. He married Virginia Fistler on Sept. 18, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple started farming in Grundy Center. In 1952, he bought a farm in the Green Mountain area, where he farmed until retiring in the early 1990's. Lewis continued living on the farm until his unexpected death. Lewis enjoyed his grandchildren, he liked college football and reading, along with eating out with family and friends. Lewis is survived by two sons; Darrel (Deb) Martin from rural Conrad, and Robert (Corinne) Martin of Marshalltown, and one daughter, Carol Gardner from Marshalltown; seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
