She was born April 20, 1923, in Goodman, Wisconsin, the daughter of August and Lida Triplett Petersen. In 1941, Marie moved to Lincoln and married Hartwell Phinney and they had four children. She was a very giving, selfless, gentle lady. In 1984, she married Lionel Harding and spent four wonderfully special years with him. She enjoyed gardening and knitting and was well-known for her baked beans, pies, cream puffs and fried chicken and for making Christmas very special for her family every year. Children are born, traditions are passed, the love continues on in her four children, Terry Phinney and Kathy Parlee, Betty Tolman and her husband, Phillip, Patrice Turner and her husband, Elgin and Peter Phinney and his wife, Kelly; four step-children, Charles Harding and his wife, Mary Ann, Dick Harding, Donald Harding and his wife, Beverly and Gary Harding and his wife, Cindy and their families; four grandchildren, Heather Tolman Chase and her husband, Derek, Brooke Turner-Cyr and her husband, Nathan, Michael Phinney and Andrew Phinney; three great-granddaughters, Addison and Rylee Cyr and Ava Chase; and a soon-to-be great-grandson, Marc Cyr; a brother, Donald Petersen; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Hartwell Phinney; her second husband, Lionel Harding; two step-sons, Frank Harding and Phillip Harding; two granddaughters, Nicole Phinney and Courtney Tolman; and her twin sister, Marjorie Whitney. Her family would like to express a special thank you to Colonial Healthcare Facility for the love and excellent care they provided for Marie over the last few years. Her life was a garden, she cultivated lasting friendships; she sowed seeds of love and kindness especially for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held from 10 am-12 noon, Friday, June 10, at Lincoln United Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm at Lincoln Cemetery, with the Rev. Cheryl Stratton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
