Graduated with the class of 1934. Entered the University of Kansas in 1934, received his A. B. degree in 1938. Graduated from Law School in May, 1941, member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and passed the State Bar June, 1941. Entered the Army September 5, 1941 at Fort Riley, Kansas as an officer in the R. O. T. C. Was assigned to the Provost Generals office and sent to Mather Field, California. In October, 1941 was ordered to Arlington Cantonment, Virginia, for a course of instruction at the Adjutant General,s School. Was assigned as Assistant Adjutant at the Victorville Army Flying School in California. He asked to be transferred to the Army Air Corps and received his wings as a pilot in advanced flying at Roswell Army Flying School on January 4, 1943. After six months of training he left for assignment with the 14th Air Force in China under General Claire Chennault, flying a B-24 the distance to Kumming, China.
