Note: a rather ghastly footnote is herein recorded. Following Lt. Fox's death an autopsy was conducted probably because there was no exit wound from the gunshot to his arm. The autopsy revealed that the track of the "pistol ball" was up his arm and down his chest. The ball came to rest firmly embedding itself in his spine, resulting in paralysis. Asst. Surgeon (Union Army) J. Younglove, who conducted the autopsy, presented the specimen (#3515), with the ball embedded therein, to the U.S. Army Medical Museum in Wash., D. C. It is on display there yet. The location of the remainder of Lt. Fox's anatomy is, at present, a mystery!; photograph (wartime), Fairfax Herald, 9/14/1900, p. 5. Fox, Francis G.: 2nd Lt., Co. C, 43rd Btln. Va. Cav.; C.M. Note., Confederate Soldier with a C.M. designation indicates they are listed on the monument to tbe Confederate Dead.
