Lila Lee Hupp died Wednesday, March 14th, at 11:08 a.m. in the Riverview Retirement Home in Chamberlain, South Dakota, with her family by her side. Lila was born Thursday, July 25th, 1935, in Asherville, Kansas, to William and Mavis Heidrick. She was the oldest of three siblings (Bob, Jerry and Joyce) and grew up in the Asherville/Beloit area of Kansas. She excelled at basketball, tennis, and cheer leading in high school. She loved working on the family farm and helping in her father's custom harvesting business. Lila also had a part-time job at a local music store selling some of the area's first 78 records and musical instruments. Lila married Charles Winfred Hupp Jr. on June 23rd, 1955. She moved to Presho and started their family in January of 1957 with the addition of William Orange Hupp. Lila moved briefly back to Kansas during this period while Charlie was in the Army, stationed in Germany. Once Charles returned from the service they had a daughter, Beth Ann Hupp, in December of 1958 and a son, Rod Dwayne Hupp, in April of 1960, and finally a last son, Donald James Hupp, in April of 1970. Lila worked at various jobs through the years including operating one of the area's first quilting machines. Lila loved to quilt and was a founding member of the Sew What Quilter Club. She also was an accomplished seamstress, and everyone who knew Lila knew she set the benchmark in terms of homemaking. Her generosity, understanding, hard work, sense of humor and unconditional love made their house home to many beyond her immediate family. Lila raised, aided and fed five different generations of kids throughout her life, always providing a smile and a home-cooked meal. Lila's activities including being a tremendous bowler and completed a 700 series as one of her many accomplishments in the sport. She was also a founding member of the Charlie's Angels woman's softball team where she pitched and was active until her mid 50's. She continued to support and watch softball as one of her favorite activities. She was also very active and loyal to all of her children's activities of rodeo, baseball, and basketball and traveled thousands of miles to view the events. Charlie and Lila purchased and operated Charlie's Bar in 1979 through 1985. Lila loved her work at the establishment and enjoyed the company of the patrons. After they sold the bar in 1985 Lila focused on her quilting business and completed thousands of quilts with her Quilting Machine, finally retiring from the business in 2008. Lila was also an active member of the United Methodist Church. Lila will be always remembered for her sense of humor, making people feel at home, and for making her home one of the most special places on the earth. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Sunday, March 18 at Presho Methodist Church. Services will be 10:30 am, Monday, March 19 at the Presho Methodist Church with burial at Presho City Cemetery
