Read More	Lilburn Manderville "Pete" Hopkins of Zenith, WV departed his earthly life and was received into the arms of the Lord for his homecoming on August 6, 2011 surrounded by family and friends at the home of his daughter, Susan, in Burlington, NC. Pete attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV and Scott High School as a teen and then served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman during World War II. He then went on to graduate from West Virginia University with a degree in Geology. Pete was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville, WV and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a member in good standing of the West Virginia Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Charleston, WV. Pete was a devoted family man, as well as an avid hunter and gardener. His love for the outdoors and the state of West Virginia were deeply important to him. These were some of the reasons he became a geologist at Columbia Gas Company in Charleston, WV. One of his many accomplishments there included being a part of the deepest well in West Virginia, where he supervised the drilling and find of that gas and oil reservoir. Pete was the son of the late Charles C. and Martha Fulton Hopkins. He was preceded in passing by his devoted wife, Delores Dolin "Wootsie" Hopkins; his brother, Harold Hopkins; and sister, Louise Byrnside. Louise was like a mother to him, lovingly taking him into her care and helping to raise him after his mother passed when he was ten years old. To celebrate his life and mourn his passing, Pete leaves his two daughters and their families: daughter, Martha "Marty" Ann Mullins, her husband Jim, their two sons, Matthew and Michael Mullins all of Hurricane, WV and Matthew's son, Darrion; and daughter, Susan Dawn Watkins of Burlington, NC, her children, Dr. Erica Barrett and husband David of Willow Spring, NC and Evan Watkins and Tiffiny Lawson and their children, Kaitlyn and Peyton of Burlington, NC. Pete will also be mourned by his niece Mary George Hocevar and her husband David; and his nephew, Chuck Byrnside and wife Penny as well as his many nieces, nephews and friends. His wife's family became a part of his own and he will be sadly missed by many from the extended Dolin family, who were very much a part of his life. He was lovingly cared for over many years by Elizabeth Vaivao and Connie McAdams. His last months of life were in the care of Alamance-Caswell Hospice in Burlington, NC, who brought in Heather Pinon-Vences as another wonderful caregiver. The quality of care and the love given by these three women especially were instrumental in extending his life and assured his comfort over his last days. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made on behalf of his memory to Alamance-Caswell Hospice in Burlington, NC. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 12 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Tom Bias officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 Madison, West Virginia. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11 at the funeral home.
