She was born in Farmington in 1895, the daughter of Benjamin and Louisa Baker Sperry. The late Mrs. Hirtle was twice married; her first husband, Stanley Kelly, predeceased her thirteen years ago. She leaves to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother, her husband; a son, Hector, 15 years of age, from her first marriage; and two daughters, Irene, aged 10 years; and Mary, 7 years, from her second marriage. Her aged parents also survive. The late Mrs. Hirtle had five brothers, and six sisters: (Jessie) Mrs. Wm. Noble, Massachusetts; (Stella) Mrs. Allan Blythe, Ottawa; Sanford, Farmington; Howard, Halifax; Maynard, Farmington; Moran, Union Square; (Laura) Mrs. Russel Morton, Farmington; Gordon, New Germany; (Udavilla) Mrs. Ellison Nauss, Farmington; (Edna) Mrs. Morton Publicover, Crescent Beach; (Ella) Mrs. James O'Grady, deceased. Of a cheerful and kindly disposition she will be greatly missed in this community, where she was always ready to lend a helping hand for the comfort and help of others. The funeral was held at her home on September 18th, and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Hartlin of Barss Corner, who spoke comforting words to the bereaved from the 14th. chapter of John. The hymns sung were old favourites of the deceased, "Some Time We'll Understand," "Blessed Assurance," and "O Happy Day." The pall-bearers were the Messrs. Clarence Silver and Ernest Morton. Interment took place in the cemetery at Union Square. Mrs.Robert Hirtle 1941 Unknown Newspaper New Germany, September 19- The death of Mrs. Robert Hirtle, 48, occurred at her home at Watford Tuesday evening following a two month illness. Before marriage she was Miss Lilla Sperry. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Sperry of Farmington, where the deceased was born. She was twice married, her first husband being the late Stanley Kelley of Watford. By that union there was a son, Hector Kelley, who survives and resides at Watford. There are two step-sons, Charles and Cedric Kelley, also of Watford. Others surviving are her second husband, and two daughters by that union, Mary and Irene, who live at home. There are five brothers, Gordon, New Germany; Moran, Union Square; Maynard, Farmington; Howard, Halifax; Sanford, Farmington. The sisters are Edna, wife of Morton Publicover, Crescent Beach; Laura, wife of Russell Morton; Euda, wife of Ellison Naas, both of Farmington; Stella, wife of Allan Blythe, Ottawa; Jessie, wife of William Noble, Quincy, Mass. Another sister, Ellen, Mrs. O'Grady, and the first break in this large family, was killed in the Halifax Explosion. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
