From "Central City Nonparell", Central City, Merrick county, Nebraska dated Thursday, April 27, 1933 OBITUARY: Lillie A. Crosbie, eldest child of Paton W. and Emily Bales Cook, was born June 10, 1862, near Salem, Henry county, IA. She died at Central City, Nebraska, April 22, 1933, at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 12 days. Uremia poisoning was the immediate cause of her death. She was critically ill for only about two weeks. With true mother love she was always considerate of the interests of her loved ones and this love manifested itself in many ways, even during her illness. Having always given so freely of herself, she desired not to be a burden to those she loved. Her education was received in the district schools of her home community, in which she grew in womanhood. On February 25, 1883, she was united in marriage to Havilah H. Crosbie, with whom she lived in happy companionship for 5 1/2 years. To them were born two sons, Milo H. Crosbie of Central City, Neb., and Clarence S. Crosbie of Eaton, Colo., both of whom were able to be with her to help care for her. On September 10, 1888, this home was broken by the sudden and accidental death of the husband and father. With heavy heart but with firm faith and confidence in God, she maintained her home and gave unreservedly of love and devotion to her boys. On September 4, 1890, she was married Murray F. Crosbie, her first husband's brother. "For almost 40 years this union proved a most congenial and happy one. To them one son was born, Loren V. Crosbie of Seattle, Wash., who was unable to be with her during her last illness. In her youth Mrs. Crosbie gave her heart to her Savior, and joined the Friends church, of which she remained a faithful member until her death. In 1898 she and her husband felt a call to more definite and active work in the church, and in preparation for that service they went to Cleveland, Ohio, where they spent some months in Cleveland Bible Institute. In the autumn of 1900 the family moved from southeastern Iowa to Boyd county, Neb., where Murray Crosbie entered upon pastoral work at Highland Monthly Meeting in Spring Bank Quarterly Meeting. In the years following they engaged in pastoral service at Kemma in Knox county, Neb. and at Illinois Grove and Linden in Iowa. Returing to Nebraska in 1905 they were pastors for three years at North Loup. On account of Mr. Crosbie's health it was necessary to give up pastoral work, and in 1908 they went to the state of Washington, where they engaged in their former occupation of farming. In the years that followed they lived in Washington and Idaho until his death, with the exception of six years from 1912 to 1918, spent in and near Central City, Neb. About the year 1928, he entered upon pastoral work again serving for a short time as pastor of the Friends church at Quilcene, Wash. Mr. Crosbie died in Tacoma November 23, 1929. After the death of her husband she came to Central City to make her home with her son, Milo, and wife, where her love was constantly manifested in ministering to those near her, in every way that she could. Besides her three sons, she leaves one grandson, Victor Crosbie of Seattle, Wash., one sister, Mrs. Nellie Lee of Hillsboro, IA; two brothers, Charles B. Cook of Spickard, Mo., William H. Cook of Salem, IA and many other relatives and a host of friends. Quiet and unassuming she possessed a sturdy integrity of character and a Christian zeal, which bore her courageously through many hardships and difficulties. Her warm sympathy and spirit of helpfulness won of her many close friendships which she prized highly. She was one who always gave of her best to her Master and His service and found a real joy in doing so. Her life was truly one of joyous victory and the memory of it will be constant benediction to the loved ones she has left. Funeral services were conducted from the home of Prof. and Mrs. Milo H. Crosbie on Monday afternoon, April 24, at 2:00 o'clock and from the Friends church at 2:30, President O. W. Carrell being in charge, assisted by Dr. S. L. Hull. Comforting hymns were sung by a quartet composed of Marion Marsh, Lola Mesner, Louise Eaton and M. Herbert Watson. At the home they sang "Savior, More Than Life to Me". At the church the hymns used were "Saved by Grace", "Christ Arose," and "Rock of Ages." Those serving as flower girls were: Verlie Roberts, Sadie Ellis, and Alvena Luce. Those serving as pall bearers were: John M. Ferguson, James Stephen, Raymond L. Gibson, Raymond D. Mesner, Lee Van Zant and Wm. H. Moore. Interment was made in the Central City cemetery. Those from out of the city in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crosbie of Eaton, Colo., Mrs. Nellie Lee of Hillsboro, IA, and her daughter, Mrs. Mary Smith, of Salem, IA.
