Description	:	Lillie Pearl Fitzgerald was one of eleven children born to William I. Nichols and Louise E. Benson. She was born July 12, 1896, on a farm near Linwood, Nebraska, and passed away Thursday, November 28, 1985, at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was baptized as a baby in Linwood. Lillie attended Linwood Public School and attended Burwell High School where she graduated Salutatorian with the class of 1915. She taught schools in a "Sod Shanty." Lillie married James Kit Fitzgerald on November 28, 1917, in Belleville, Kansas, and to this marriage five children were born. Lillie and her husband farmed for 18 years in Republic County, Kansas, and also the Hardy and and Bostwick area for 6 years. They also spent a short time in Oregon, leaving because of health reasons, coming back to Superior. Lillie entered the Good Samaritan Center of Superior in May of 1984. She spent many hours making quilts for each of her children and grandchildren, as well as many others. She was preceded in death by her husband James Kit in 1973, her parents, 1 sister Rachel Timmons, 3 brothers Fred, Charles and infant brother George. Survivors left to mourn her passing and cherish her memories are 3 daughters, Mrs. Virginia Simmons, Delano, California, Mrs. Evelyn Huffman and her husband Fred of Superior, Nebraska, Mrs. Betty Olson of Trenton, Michigan; 2 sons, James Herman and his wife Eunice of Glenvil, Nebraska, Donald Laverne and his wife Josephine of Superior, Nebraska; 1 brother, Clarence Nichols and his wife Lydia of Grand Island, Nebraska; 5 sisters, Margaret Nichols of Temple City, California, Mrs. Grace Bjorling, Grand Island, Nebraska, Viola Nichols, Grand Island, Nebraska, Mrs. Mabel Britten, Wood River, Nebraska, and Hazel Nichols of York, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Lillie will be sadly missed by all her family and relatives and friends that knew her. Funeral services were held Monday, December 2, 1985, at 2:00 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Richard Kelderhouse officiating. Music was provided by Carol Shambaugh, soloist, singing "Precious Memories" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were: Harold Fischer, Tim Fitzgerald, Rob Turner, Elmer Giger, Terry Olson. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
