Mr. Jay lived in town for a good many years but since the death of his wife has lived with Mrs. Smith. Burlington Hawk Eye, February 1, 1923 -------------- OBIT 2: One of the best men in these parts passed on Tuesday, January 30, 1923, Lindsay W. Jay went to his reward. He had been in failing health for a long time and an attack of flu hastened his death. He was a son of Joseph and Mary Jane (Haines) Jay and was born in Henry County, Iowa, August 1, 1845. On July 29, 1870 he and Elizabeth Zentmyer were joined in marriage. Two have departed this life, Johnnie Jay and Mrs. Ora Smith. Those remaining are Joseph and Alva Jay, Powder Rive, Wyoming, and Mrs. Edith Smith, Mt. Pleasant, and two brothers, Joseph Jay, Rapid City, South Dakota, and James Jay, Eureka Spring, Arkansas, also remain. Besides those, hosts of loving friends and neighbors will cherish the memory of the good man. He was converted in Richwoods years ago and living a happy, earnest, consistent, Christian life. His testimony was always freighted with helpfulness and inspiration. Funeral services, conducted by Frank E, Weston, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Mr. Pleasant, were held in Benjamin Chapel, Richwoods, Saturday morning at 11:00. Mrs. N. C. Buck, Miss Rachel Weston and Mr. Weston, with Mrs. U. S. Williams as accompanist sang his favorite hymns. The pallbearers were John and Neal Bates, Harold Jay, Charles McMillan, Glenn Haines and Roberts Hills. Interment was in Richwoods Cemetery. Mount Pleasant Daily News, February 13, 1923
