Description	:	Margarethe Luise Charlotte Schlake, always known as Lizzie, was the youngest surviving child of Friedrich and Charlotte Schlake. Lizzie was only two years old when the family boarded the ship for America and turned three just as they arrived in Gage County, Nebraska. On March 11, 1897, Lizzie married Ernest Spilker, the brother of her sister’s husband and brother’s wife. Their four children were William Spilker, Lillie Spilker Bass, Bert Spilker, and Emil Spilker. The young family moved to Clay Center, Kansas soon after Emil’s birth. Lizzie suffered terribly from arthritis and died in her early fifties. This information is also available in the privately printed book "The Family of Friedrich Schlake and Charlotte Jaeger. He married (Charlotte) Anna Marie Louise Charlotte Jaeger 13 JAN 1854 in Preussisch Oldendorf, Westfalen, Preussen, daughter of Carl Ludewig (Moeller) Jaeger and Marie Eleonore Nieder Helmich. She was born 15 JUL 1836 in Preussisch Oldendorf, Westfalen, Preussen, and died 9 JAN 1889 in Pickrell, Nebraska. She was buried 12 JAN 1889 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, DeWitt, Nebraska. There is a reason that we included all the children and all their spouses on this entry: Three of the Schlake siblings—Fred, Sadie, and Lizzie—married three Spilker siblings—Wilhelmine, Karl, and Ernest. The descendants of Lizzie and Ernest Spilker are therefore double cousins to a very very large number of people. She married John Robert Pagels 3 APR 1881 in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. He was born 1 JAN 1845 in Germany, and died 3 MAY 1933 in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. 3. (Louise) Margarethe Luise Charlotte Schlake was born 26 NOV 1859 in Preussisch Oldendorf, Westfalen, Preussen, and died in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Ernest Friedrich Wilhelm Schlake was born 9 JUL 1869 in Preussisch Oldendorf, Westfalen, Preussen, and died 15 OCT 1872 in Germany. 7. He was born 5 MAY 1871 in Blasheim, Obermehnen, Westfalen, Preussen, and died 16 JUN 1941 in Clay Center, Kansas. 10. Heinrich Friedrich Schlake was born 12 JAN 1880, and probably died before he was five years old. He may not have survived the journey to America. He was listed on the ship record when the family departed from Bremerhaven, but was not listed in the 1885 Nebraska Census.
