The family moved to Great Falls, Montana about 1924 when Andy was 5 years old. He attended McKinley Elementary School for 2 years and then moved to the Boston Heights area and attended Lowell Elementary through the 5th grade, and during the 6th grade he attended Roosevelt Elementary. Read More	LLOYD Andrew Andersen, he liked to be called Andy was born June 11, 1919, to Andrew P. Andersen and Anna Katherine Nelson Andersen in Hanks, North Dakota. The family moved to Great Falls, Montana about 1924 when Andy was 5 years old. He attended McKinley Elementary School for 2 years and then moved to the Boston Heights area and attended Lowell Elementary through the 5th grade, and during the 6th grade he attended Roosevelt Elementary. He went to Paris Gibson and graduated from Shelby Junior High 1933. Then attended Great Falls High School and graduated in 1937. Jobs were hard to find so Andy joined The Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the kitchen until the Education Director appointed him Dance Instructor, he was immediately addicted to dance. After about 3 months his father got him a position with Anaconda Mining Company, but he continually told his father he was too small to do the required work there, at that time there was a weight requirement that you had to weigh a 128 pounds, so the foreman terminated Andy for that reason. His father told him he would talk to the supervisor and have him put back on, but Andy begged his father not to. So Andy started to buy candy and other snack food items at a discount, he traded in his Model-A Ford for a Chevy Van, and began selling candy wholesale to stores and bars in town and along the Hi-Line area. 1939 he married Betty Creekmore and they spent their honeymoon on a business trip across the Hi-Line area; Havre, Shelby, Browning, Cut Bank, Choteau and Fairfield. After a few months he got a job through his landlord with the city watering the boulevards. During World War II; he was drafted into the Navy and served from 1944-1946. Stationed at Long Beach, California aboard the USS Cecil, 1945 he crossed the Equator and became a Shellback and a Golden Dragon when he crossed the 180th Meridian on a Mission of War against Japan. Andy was present at the surrendering of Japan and raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. After his time in the Navy he became a brakeman with The Great Northern Railroad and later became a conductor and worked for 33 years. He was President of Local 51 of The United Railroad Operating Crafts. During the 1970's he obtained his Realtor's license, so he could stay closer to home to take care of Betty after she had her first heart attack. He then retired from the railroad after the last passenger car service of the Budd Car from Great Falls, Fort Benton, to the Havre Hi-Line area. He went into real estate full time, making and losing millions. He was Salesman of the Month, attended the Montana Real Estate Institute and completed course work for Real Estate Law and Practice and obtained his Broker license. He was installed as Master of the Euclid Lodge, a father-son tradition, including his two brothers, Bernard and Mervin. During the 80's, Andy started to notice he was putting on weight due to the sedimentary life in an office and he began running. He became a run-aholic and an exercise nut. He ran his first half-marathon at age 61 running in the Sleely Lake "Snow Joke" at a time of 2.21:11, becoming a Cheetah Herder. He was Realtor of the Year and ran for House District #39, he also began Tap dancing. During the 90's Andy wanted to keep his mind sharp so he began to take guitar lessons, learn to read sheet music and to play the piano. After 55 years of marriage, and 3 daughters, Betty died in 1994, during this year he met Ruth Blais, she also was widowed that year and they met when he helped her sell her rental properties and they fell in love and married on Super Bowl Sunday 1995. He ran in the annual Ice-Breaker Marathon every year until 2007 when he contacted Shingles, after that Andy could no longer run due to nerve damage in right leg, but he still could dance. Andy spent the remaining years dancing, playing his guitar and keyboard and singing at home or to residents at rest homes and the Senior Citizens Center. He maintained his real estate broker license through 2011 letting it expire and finally retiring. He was a Mason, a life member of The Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles, The Moose Lodge, and the VFW Post 1087. Andy passed away on January 12, 2014, a clear, crisp, cold Sunday morning, at Peace Hospice; he was 94 years, 7 months and 1 day old. His loving wife Ruth was at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and his sister, and his first wife Betty. He is survived by his second wife and three daughters: Lucille, Marsha and Loyan, a step-daughter Phyllis, three step-sons; Richard, Stephen and Timothy, numerous nephews and nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lloyd Andrew "Andy" Andersen GREAT FALLS —Lloyd Andrew "Andy" Andersen, 94, of Great Falls, died Sunday, January 12, 2014. Services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home. He was born on June 11, 1919 in Hanks, North Dakota to Andrew and Katherine Andersen. His family moved to Great Falls when he was five, where he was raised and educated. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad for almost 30 years, after that he worked as a real estate broker in Great Falls until his retirement in 2011. Andy married Betty Creekmore and she passed away in 1994 after 55 years of marriage. He later married Ruth A. Welsh on January 29, 1995. He was a member of the Eagles Club, a life member of the Elks, Masons, Moose, and VFW Post 1087. He loved to sing, dance, and spend time with his family and friends. Andy is survived by his wife Ruth A. Andersen of Great Falls; daughters Lucille Hatfield of Yuma, AZ, Marsha (William) Branch of Portland, OR, and Loyan (Steve) McComb of Tampa, FL; step-daughter Phyllis (Dean) Kindred of Great Falls; step-sons Richard Highwood, Steven (Michelle) Highwood, and Timothy (Carolyn) Highwood all of Great Falls; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brothers, Bernard and Mervin Andersen; and sister Luella.
