Description	:	Ruth Adele Andersen passed away early Mother’s Day morning. She was born February 15, 1925 in Gary, Indiana. And boy did she live life! She was 94 years, 2 months and 29 days young. She was married 3 times and raised 4 children. After a long career at the Columbus Hospital in Patient Accounting, Ruth retired in 1987. She traveled, danced, and was a member of several clubs and organizations, including: the Clown Club, the Montana Sports Car Club; a life member of the Women of the Moose since 1955; the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 40 years; the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1981; the Fraternal Order of Elks; and the Red Hat Society. Ruth loved to read, dance, and work puzzles. She lived to volunteer at Benefis Hospital in the gift shop and at the information desk, and at the Senior Citizens Center since 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Bessie Welsh, brothers: Lee Vansdol of Indiana, Wendell Mickey of California and Harold Mickey of Missouri. Also, her three husbands Richard T. Highwood Sr. (1985), Kenneth Blais (1994) and Lloyd “Andy” Andersen (2014). She was also preceded by her step-son Richard T. Highwood Jr. (2016) She is survived by her daughter Phyllis (Dean) , sons Steve (Michelle) and Timothy (Carolyn) all of Great Falls, Montana. She has 4 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 14 great grand children. Her husband Andy always said, (Andy Says!) “She’s one amazing woman and a little cutie too!” In lieu of flowers send donations to the Great Falls Humane Society or The Senior Citizen Center. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Eagles Lodge at 3:00 p.m. At Ruth’s request she would like the members of The Ladies Auxiliaries of the Eagles, Moose and VFW 1087 to be in attendance. My mother passed away when I was three years old and I was placed in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Orphans Home and was adopted by a couple and raised in Beach Grove, Indiana. I graduated from Beach Grove High School in 1943. Worked for a department store and then for Western Union until 1952 when I married Richard T Highwood and moved to Maelstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Montana. My husband was in the military and we had 4 children: 3 boys and 1 girl. I joined the Moose Lodge in 1955 and have held all elected offices except secretary and treasurer. Was the Senior Regent twice. I especially enjoyed Guide and Ritual Chairman. In those days I helped on many dinners, raffles and picnics at the lodge home. I also belonged to the Clown Club and participated in various activities including selling fireworks, parades and socializations. My sons belonged to the Boy Scout Troop sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose. I remember taking them and several of their friends to their meetings every week. My husband and I enjoyed the Saturday night dances and meeting with the other Moose members. During the 1960’s I raced Volkswagens and Simcas being a member of the Sport Car Club. I worked at the Columbus Hospital for six years, 1961-67 when my husband was transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming. We transferred our Moose membership in 1969 and I became Senior Regent in 1971. I made honors and was able to become a Col. of Regents in 1973. While living in Cheyenne I worked for a department store. Richard and I divorce in 1972 and I moved back to Great Falls, Montana, and then married Ken Blais. I also returned to work at the Columbus Hospital in Patients Accounts. I transferred my membership back to the Great Falls Moose Lodge in 1974. Being a Col. of Regents I couldn’t hold an elected office except for secretary which I didn’t want. I helped as a Musician, Ritual Chairman Col. Regent and PEP Chairman. Ken and I enjoyed the many parties and socializations held at the Moose Lodge. I also have belonged to the V.F.W. since 1972 and have held several offices including President (twice) and District Offices for three years. I helped at all the activities for Veterans and the Hospital at Fort Harrison. In 1977 I joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles and have held all offices at the local auxiliary. Hosted many dinners and raffles for charities sponsored by the Eagles. I also participated on the Ritual Team for three years in competition at the state meetings. Retiring in 1987 from the Columbus Hospital, I began volunteering at the new Benefis Health Care System in their Escort Service and then at the reception desk and gift store. In 1994 my husband Ken passed away and in 1995 on Super Bowl Sunday I married Andy Andersen. He fills in for me at the Escort Desk when I can’t make it, but he doesn’t get too involved in volunteering as he has his real estate office and he enjoys what he is doing. However he is happy that I have my own life and never complains. He always tells me “The word “NO” is not in my vocabulary.” All things considered my life has been good. To quote my husband Andy: “The golden years have been good to us and we have the world by the tail with a downhill pull.” In closing I might mention that I take my friend who is not as fortunate as I am shopping, to doctors appointments and we go to lunch and the hair dresser once a week because she has a hard time getting around.
