Published in Great Falls Tribune on November 17, 2012 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A father, grandfather, uncle, companion, friend and always a gentleman, Lloyd Donald Creek Sr. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at St. Vincent Healthcare. Lloyd was born July 24, 1931, to Earl and Agnes Creek. He grew up in Pryor, where he learned at an early age his work ethics. Lloyd married Shirley Woodhead in 1950, and from this union four sons were born. This marriage ended in 1977. Lloyd Creek Sr. was a true man of honor; as a businessman, his word was his bond and his work ethics far exceeded everything else in his life. He was from the "Greatest Generation" and served in the Army during the Korean War. He flew P51s and later owned his own airplane for his business. Lloyd would forever be a lifelong patriot. He was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Shrine, Scottish Rite, Elks, American Legion & VFW. Lloyd and his father started a cleaning/maintenance business in 1955 at Security Bank. In 1963 Lloyd lobbied to get the maintenance contract for the State Capital building in Helena. This was the first contract ever issued in the U.S. to a private company. Lloyd's business expanded to 13 cities in five states. He had over 450 employees to maintain the business. Lloyd sold the business in the 1970s but reopened a business in 1981 that his son Lloyd Jr. owns and operates to date. Lloyd also owned night clubs: Tracy's and Mr. Lucky's in Helena and the Cocomo Club in Forsyth. He loved country music and often said he was country when country wasn't cool. He booked a lot of country stars to perform in his clubs and was a personal friend of May and Hoyt Axton and many Nashville stars. Lloyd and Irene, his better half of many years, traveled to many places. Lloyd had a fascination for Death Valley and it seemed to call him back periodically. He loved guns and nice cars and was adamant about keeping them clean. His great pleasure was his boat in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Those who spent time on the boat knew what a treat it was. He was a great pilot and loved to fly. It was said that he was the only man that acquired a private plane by a broom. Lloyd was a pioneer in the building maintenance business, using his love of flying to connect him to his many interstate locations. Lloyd was a private person, a self-made man of wealth, and he knew a lot about everything but was never pretentious. Whatever he decided to do, he made it work. To those people Lloyd chose to befriend, he was extremely loyal. Those who had Lloyd as a friend felt it was the highest form of compliment. He touched the lives of many people and had a way of making you feel that you were special. He had a genuine love and appreciation for the people closest to him. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Thelma and Wanda, a son, Jeff (#154226021) and grandson, Arlyn (# 229327232). He is survived by Irene, the love of his life; his sons Don (Coral), Greg, Lloyd Jr.; his grandchildren Natalie (Jason), Nathan (Stasia); two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Visitation and viewing will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Michelotti-Sawyers, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral services will take place at Michelotti-Sawyers on Monday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held at the American Legion Club, 1540 Broadwater Ave., following the services. Anyone who was touched by this man's life is welcome.
