Description	:	Lloyd LaVern Buck was born May 26, 1921, in rural Kiowa County, the son of William Jennings Bryan Buck and Helen Willett Buck. LaVern spent his lifetime in Kiowa County, growing up on the farm, and attaining his formal education in Kiowa County schools. LaVern had farming in his blood, and this would be his lifetime occupation. LaVern continued to offer advice to his grandsons, Brad and Rick, as they had taken up the occupation of farming. Read More	Lloyd LaVern Buck was born May 26, 1921, in rural Kiowa County, the son of William Jennings Bryan Buck and Helen Willett Buck. LaVern spent his lifetime in Kiowa County, growing up on the farm, and attaining his formal education in Kiowa County schools. LaVern had farming in his blood, and this would be his lifetime occupation. LaVern continued to offer advice to his grandsons, Brad and Rick, as they had taken up the occupation of farming. LaVern was an excellent farmer, some even say he was probably the best farmer in Kiowa County has ever known. LaVern particularly loved raising wheat. There was just something about wheat farming that LaVern really liked. LaVern died at his home September 19, 2001, at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife, Videlle, of the family home in Eads; children Fred (Cassie) Buck of Pennsylvania, Linda Lafferty of Elkhart, Kansas, and Sharon McEwen of Eads; three step children, James R. (Judi) Pearson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Clelia (Bob) King of Sierra Vista, and Donna Driskell of Fort Collins; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. LaVern is also survived by his uncle, Ray Buck, of Eads, and his step mother, Hazel Buck, of Elkhart, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cora Buck; son, Bill Buck; son-in-law, Floyd McEwen; and an infant granddaughter. Grave side funeral services for Lloyd LaVern Buck were held September 22, 2001, at the Eads Cemetery. Long time friend and neighbor, L.D. Nelson, officiated the services. LaVern was carried to his place of rest by his grandsons, Brad Buck, Rick Buck, Scott Buck, Jeff Buck, Todd McEwen, J.D. McEwen, Butch Crockett and Bud Whitney. His very good friends, Larry Watts, Johnny Weber and James Garner served as honorary casket bearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Eads. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home. Kiowa County Press - September 21, 2001
