He was born July 11, 1920 on the same farm where he lived most of his life, to Harry E. and Lila Goehring Williams. He married Betty McCormick March 22, 1942 in Fairfield. He graduated from Douds High School, served in the U. S. Navy Air Corps during World War II, and was a farmer and carpenter. He attended Christ United Methodist Church, Douds and was a member of John Hyson Reneker Post 494, American Legion, Douds and Fairfield Weekenders Club and was a former member of Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and Van Buren County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife, a son Melvin and his wife Dianna, Mexico, Mo., 2 daughters, Mary Bass and her husband, Duane, Ottumwa, and Martha Foster and her husband, Ronald, Pleasant Hill, 7 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Velma Booth, Batavia and Helen Knecht, Sacramento, Ca. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Russ Bass. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 21, 1993, 1:30 p.m. in Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Rev. Michael Druhl officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds with military rites by John Hyson Reneker Post 494. Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials to Van Buren County Hospice or Ottumwa Regional Home Health Service may be left at the funeral home. (Van Buren County Register, IA - December 23, 1993)
