He was born April 29, 1912, at Guide Rock. His parents were Ezra T. and Leefa May (Simpson) Lynes. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. Lynes, 89 April 29, 1912-April 7, 2002 HEMINGFORD - Lloyd Thomas Lynes, 89, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at the Hemingford Community Care Center. He was born April 29, 1912, at Guide Rock. His parents were Ezra T. and Leefa May (Simpson) Lynes. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He received the Bronze Star and Good Conduct medals. On Dec. 5, 1946, he married Gertrude (Grover) Condry at Rushville. She preceded him in death in 1992. They owned and operated the Lynes Motel at Hemingford for 16 years until retiring in 1977. He also had farmed, worked on cattle ranches, for the Nebraska State Department of Roads and the Box Butte County Department of Roads. He loved horses and spent much of his life training horses, riding rodeos and was a race- horse jockey for two hears. He drove a team of mules while building roads and helped build the dam at Lake McConaughy. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans. He is survived by his daughter, Viola Kelley of Hastings; ten grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Ezra Lynes of Oshkosh and Merle Lynes of Burley, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Dorothy Allen; son, Montie Condry; two sisters; three brothers; and three grandchildren. Mr. Lynes' funeral was Friday, April 12, at the Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier Chapel at Gordon, with Pastor Jeffery Grams officiating. Burial was in the Gordon Cemetery.
