She was born April 4, 1934, in Ottumwa, the fourth child in her family, and was born on the fourth day of the fourth month in 1934, to Cleve L. and Lucille Krumpholtz Carnahan. She was born April 4, 1934, in Ottumwa, the fourth child in her family, and was born on the fourth day of the fourth month in 1934, to Cleve L. and Lucille Krumpholtz Carnahan. She married Victor Elliott. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1987. She married Jack Dale McVey on Aug. 2, 2003. They have been together for 20 years. A 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she had worked at Northwestern Bell, Universal Rundle and as a cook for the Ottumwa School system. Lois had also worked at Donut Land, Cinnabob's, Casey's General Stores and at Amoco stations. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the ladies auxiliary. She was also a member of UTU Railroad Lodge #752, O.B.Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary and Walter B.Schafer Post #775 Ladies Auxiliary. Lois enjoyed playing Bingo. Surviving are her husband, Jack; a daughter, Vicki(Roger)Smith of Blakesburg; two sons, Harold(Karen)Cowan of Melbourne, Fla., and Patrick(Betty)Cowan of Ottumwa; two stepchildren, Pam(Bob)Brown of Ark City, Kan., and Jackie(Sherry)McVey of Kaw City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Casey Bonney and Kassidy Cowan both of Ottumwa, Anthony Schultz of Johnston; nine stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Peterson of Ottumwa; a brother, Robert(Patty)Carnahan of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Billy, James and infant brother Carnahan; and a stepgreat-granddaughter. Funeral services will be 3 pm Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church; with Rev. James Altmaier officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 3-5 pm Sunday evening. Memorials may be made to Plymouth Congregational church.
