Description	:	Lois Ardell Nelson was born April 29, 1931 in Norma, ND to Wilman and Marie (Edwardson) Nelson. She attended school in Northgate and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1949 as valedictorian of her class. Lois received her teaching certificate at Minot Teachers College (Minot State University) and began teaching school at Stafford School #1, a one-room school in Renville County. She always said, “The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting your dad.” Lois and... Read More	Lois Ardell Nelson was born April 29, 1931 in Norma, ND to Wilman and Marie (Edwardson) Nelson. She attended school in Northgate and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1949 as valedictorian of her class. Lois received her teaching certificate at Minot Teachers College (Minot State University) and began teaching school at Stafford School #1, a one-room school in Renville County. She loved teaching until she met the love of her life. She married Loren (Bud) Nelson in Kenmare on December 23, 1950. She always said, “The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting your dad.” Lois and Bud were “life partners” in everything they did. Together they spent 25 years with Lois being very involved in every aspect of their farming operation, until Bud’s death in May of 1976. They were avid bowlers and bowled on several weekly leagues and enjoyed traveling to bowling tournaments around the country. Lois also enjoyed decorating wedding cakes. Lois was involved at Stafford Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and church clerk. After Bud passed away, she found no enjoyment on the farm anymore and moved to Minot in 1977 to attend Minot State University, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Addiction Counseling. Upon completion of her degree, she was employed at Minot Air Force Base as an education counselor until her retirement in March of 2013. She thoroughly loved her job and dedicated her career to helping airmen obtain their degrees as well as supplying them with cookies and donuts. Even after the airmen transferred, many remained in contact with her and continued to show their appreciation by sending gifts from all over the world. At the age of 82, she decided it was finally time to retire. In the spring of 2017, Lois moved to The Wellington, an assisted-living facility in Minot, where she was surrounded by a wonderful staff of dedicated and loving caregivers. Lois passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at a Minot hospital, at the age of 88 years. Lois is survived by: Her four children, Janet (Ward) Glasoe, Minneapolis, MN, Marla (Donovan) Nelson, Donnybrook, Linda (David) Creighton, Columbia Falls, MT and Bruce (Paula) Nelson, Minot. She enjoyed being a grandmother to 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Glasoe) and John Vojacek, Luke Glasoe, Nathaniel and Chasity Nelson, Jennifer (Nelson) and Austin Lindsay, Nicholas and Abby Nelson, Michael and Liz Creighton, Jonathan and Keri Creighton, Jason Creighton, Nicole Creighton, Charity (Nelson) and Floyd Lemere, Melissa (Nelson) and Dusty Brossart and Laura Nelson. She has 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Loren (Bud) Nelson; parents; sisters, Blanche St. Croix, Helen Van de Brake, Edith Bridges and Ruby Guerdette; brothers, Rodney Nelson and Wilbur Nelson; and infant grandson, Matthew Nelson. Funeral: Monday, August 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare, ND. Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. Visitation: An hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials: Any donations received will be given to the following non-profit organizations: Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, Minot and FaHoCha Bible Camp, Warwick, ND
