The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center with Rev. Michael Stockmeyer officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 12:45 PM at the church. Lois Elaine Rice was born December 19, 1927, in Battle Creek, Nebraska, to Henry and Sevilla (Bredehoft) Flesner. The family moved to Columbus when Lois was a small child. Lois was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1945. On August 17, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Myron Rice in Marysville, Kansas. The couple made their home northwest of Columbus on a farm. Lois was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. She then went to work for Becton-Dickinson for 25 years. Lois was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, LWML, Altar Guild, Sunday School teacher, choir, and bible class. She loved to bowl and belonged to two leagues for many years. Lois was a volunteer for the Red Cross and the Columbus Hospital Auxiliary. She loved playing board games and particularly word games. She enjoyed music of any kind, movies and never missed a play at the Columbus Community Playhouse. Lois was a devoted Christian and strove to be a witness for Christ. She loved sharing the news of the salvation that is given as a free gift through her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and would invited those that did not know of this "Good News" to attend church with her. Those that Lois met that did not have a personal relationship with Christ, she would pray for them and she continued to pray for them until her own health failed her. Lois is survived by: Daughter - Rita Perkins of Platte Center, NE Daughter - Karen Swoboda of Columbus, NE Daughter - Beth Rice of Columbus, NE Daughter - Barb (Bob) Nielsen of Norfolk, NE 11 Grandchildren 23 Great Grandchildren 3 Great-Great Grandchildren Sister - Ardes Sims of Columbus, NE Nephew - Mark Sims of Columbus, NE Lois was preceded in death by: Husband - Myron Rice Parents - Henry and Sevilla Flesner Brother - Delbert Flesner Brother-in-law - Emmett Sims Niece - Deborah Collinsworth
