Description	:	Lois Eggers (1919 - 2014) Lois Eggers died Monday, January 27th at Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, SD. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls SD. Interment will precede the service at 9:30 am the Hartford Cemetery. Lois Gertrude Tinkham was born on the family farm near Colton, SD on October 19, 1919 to John & Lucy (Frederick) Tinkham. She attended Grand Meadow Country School, Colton High School, and graduated in 1937 from Humboldt High School. While working for her room and board, she attended Augustana College and received her Two Year Elementary Education Certificate in 1939. She landed her first teaching job in Vienna, SD where she was in charge of grades 1-5. It was there that Lois met the Superintendent, Paul Eggers. Paul joined the army when World War II began. They were married July 11, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas on a three-day pass, and her 63 year long journey as a wife began. After 6 years in the military and countless moves including Waverly SD and Downey, CA, they made one final transition to Sioux Falls in 1958. Since free tuition was one of the perks offered to faculty family members, Lois returned to Augustana and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. Lois loved being a homemaker and was also the family peacemaker. She attended all of their son John's Washington High and Augie basketball games. Lois enjoyed fishing and cooking wild game because John loved the outdoors. She dragged out doing the supper dishes every night to keep their daughter Cheryl practicing the piano. She kept the cookie jar full; was a gracious hostess; sought out new crafts and good books; and was a nurturer to the many who lived in the Eggers home for a few months or a few years. She loved traveling the world with Paul and dancing in his arms. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Ryan Nelson's family moved right across the street in 1999, Lois and Paul considered themselves so blessed. Lois loved God and said the words to the hymn "I Am Content" summed up her life. She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl (Paul) Nelson, Gettysburg SD; 2 grandsons: Ryan (Carmen) Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD and Erik (Tami) Nelson, Gettysburg SD; one granddaughter, Kimberly (Jim) Rose of Weeki Wachee, FL; and 8 extraordinary great grandchildren: Parker, Mitchell, Teagan & Cooper Nelson and Michael, Austin, Jacob & Lucas Rose. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her son, John; and her sister & brother - in-law, Mary and Paul Graves. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
